Yesterday the LOC of the PCST 2023 (Public Communication of Science and Technology) evaluated the conference that took place on 11–14 April in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and hosted 700 participants. I have so many fond memories of the people I met, the conversations I had, the inspiring sessions I attended — and I am proud of the big steps we as a LOC, together with the PCST Network, took to make the conference as inclusive as possible, true to its theme ‘Creating common ground’.
Personal highlights
- I am happy with the positive response to my talk ‘Defusing deficit thinking in science communication practice’.
- I am proud of the session ‘Research infrastructures: connecting scientific facilities to society’ that I co-organised with Marjolein Oorsprong, with excellent talks by Tabea Rauscher (EMBL), Emma Sanders (CERN), Anton Binneman (SARAO) and Elise Brouwer (ASTRON).
- It was an honour and an inspiration to be a member of the LOC, which included people from all parts of the science communication community in the Netherlands.
- I am proud of having led the great team responsible for the conference communications: Carolina Pereira Marghidan, Marieke Baan and Barry van der Meer. And I am grateful for the help of our tireless coordinator Anne Dijkstra and co-chairs Caroline Wehrmann and Laurens Landeweerd.
- I still enjoy reading the visual summary that the incredibly talented Carolina Pereira Marghidan made of the conference, which can be downloaded on Zenodo.
- I look forward to the next PCST Conference in Aberdeen!
Gisteren evalueerde het LOC van PCST 2023 (Public Communication of Science and Technology) de conferentie die plaatsvond op 11–14 april in Rotterdam en 700 deelnemers ontving. Ik heb zo veel fijne herinneringen aan de mensen die ik ontmoette, de gesprekken die ik voerde, de inspirerende sessies die ik bijwoonde — en ik ben trots op de grote stappen die we als LOC, samen met het PCST Network, hebben gezet om de conferentie zo inclusief mogelijk te maken, trouw aan het thema ‘Creating common ground’.
Persoonlijke hoogtepunten
- Ik ben blij met de positieve reacties op mijn lezing ‘Defusing deficit thinking in science communication practice’.
- Ik ben trots op de sessie ‘Research infrastructures: connecting scientific facilities to society’ die ik mede-organiseerde met Marjolein Oorsprong, met uitstekende bijdragen van Tabea Rauscher (EMBL), Emma Sanders (CERN), Anton Binneman (SARAO) en Elise Brouwer (ASTRON).
- Het was een eer en een inspiratie om lid te zijn van het LOC, dat mensen uit alle hoeken van de Nederlandse wetenschapscommunicatiegemeenschap omvatte.
- Ik ben trots op het geweldige team dat verantwoordelijk was voor de communicatie van de conferentie: Carolina Pereira Marghidan, Marieke Baan en Barry van der Meer. En ik ben dankbaar voor de onvermoeibare inzet van coördinator Anne Dijkstra en co-voorzitters Caroline Wehrmann en Laurens Landeweerd.
